Dunfermline Abbey

£450.00

‘Dunfermline Abbey’ hand painted ladybird on original 19th century etching.  Original 19th century etchings form a 150 year link to a vastly different time in Scottish history.   The idealised scenes of castles and ruins have new hyper-real interventions added to them.   Bees, butterflies, beetles, and birds within these pieces are meticulously painted utilising hair line brushes.   The scale of these new additions has been vastly altered to the point of impossibility, and yet they appear to interact with the scenes.    This leads to the viewer questioning everything about the artwork.

Acrylic paint applied to 19th Century Etching.  Michael Dix is an artist and designer based in Dundee. ‘Scale’ forms the central core of Michael's work.  Concentrated, articulate, complex pieces of nature and other overlooked objects are painted over pristine white backgrounds, ordinance survey maps, period etchings and glass. Michael has developed meticulous techniques which cause the viewer to question how the work is created, or if what they are looking at is real.  Michael has exhibited extensively throughout the UK and his work can is found in collections throughout the world.
